Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book explores how Indigenous wisdom and nature’s reciprocity can reshape our values, advocating for a system based on gratitude, interconnectedness, and mutual flourishing.

Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural. In her latest book, Robin Wall Kimmerer, author of Braiding Sweetgrass, explores how Indigenous wisdom and the natural world can guide us to a more balanced, interconnected life based on gratitude and reciprocity. Focusing on the serviceberry, Kimmerer illustrates how its relationship with the environment exemplifies a model of giving, where abundance is shared for mutual survival. In contrast to the scarcity-driven, competitive economy we live in, Kimmerer advocates for a system where wealth is measured by the quality of relationships, not self-sufficiency. Through her teachings, she challenges us to rethink our values and reconnect with the Earth. Kimmerer is also donating her book advance to support land protection, restoration, and justice, reflecting the ethic of reciprocity that defines her work.
